We are delighted to announce the second edition of the “Concours International de Piano Antoine de Saint-Exupéry” which will take place from 4 to 7 April 2019 at the Theatre Théo Argence in Saint-Priest. The city of Saint-Priest is the second largest city of Metropolitan Lyon, in the middle of the beautiful and historic Auvergne Rhône-Alpes area, the second most populous region of France with some eight million inhabitants.
Commensurate with its cultural status, the city of St-Priest wishes to create an original and ambitious international musical event which offers the public of the city, the region and people from all around the world four days of exceptional musical making. Young pianists will be coming to Saint-Priest from around the globe and the whole event will be broadcast online.
This “Concours International de Piano Antoine de Saint-Exupéry” is dedicated to promoting the artistic careers of the young prizewinners. As well as giving pianists the opportunity to be heard and advised by international concert pianists, they will also benefit from liaising with decision-makers from the professional musical world such as artistic agents, radio-television producers. The Directors of the competition is organising a debate for this special occasion.
Because of Saint-Priest’s dedication to this event as a region, and through its public and private partners’ generosity, we can also offer prize monies of €20 000 to the five finalists, which is a good financial support for aspiring young musicians setting out on their careers as concert pianists.
This is with ethos and passion that we organise this event. The local public through its Conservatoire and government of the City have already shown their enthusiasm and real interest.
The first edition, in 2017, was a tremendous success. 35 young and talented pianists were selected to participate in the competition from 24 different countries. 2200 people came over during three days plus nearly 500 children from different schools.
All this event will be broadcast online by the same team than the Leeds International Piano Competition, the Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition or the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition like the previous edition. This is a great opportunity for young pianists to be recorded professionally and use their recording for their own purpose and also a fabulous way to be professionally broadcast and watched by thousands of people all over the world.
Everything is set up to make these four days in April 2019 the continuity of an extraordinary human and musical adventure.
We look forward to seeing you from 4 to 7 April 2019 at the Theatre Theo Argence in Saint-Priest surrounded by wonderful music lovers.
Béatrice Quoniam Chauvel
General Director of the “Concours International de Piano Antoine de Saint-Exupéry”
